The final numbers are in and Trump’s first month in office was an enormous burden to taxpayers.
Trump has spent most of his weekends at his lavish Florida resort, Mar-A-Lago. As The Washington Post reports, Trump’s three weekend trips during his first month in office have a hefty price tag: “ … Probably cost the federal treasury about $10 million, based on figures used in an October government report analyzing White House travel, including money for Coast Guard units to patrol the exposed shoreline and other military, security and staffing expenses associated with moving the apparatus of the presidency.”
Former President Barack Obama, by comparison, spent an average of $12.1 million each year during his time in office. If you divide that out, Trump is spending 10-times as much as Obama.
Trump is directly contradicting what he said during the campaign.
“I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done,” Trump told a reporter in 2015, according to ThinkProgress. “I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off… You don’t have time to take time off.”
The worst part of all – while Trump is out golfing, his administration is working on ways to cut programs that support millions of middle class Americans.
