President Donald Trump may be building a Russian-style dictatorship right here in the United States.
That may seem outrageous, but it’s not too far off from the truth. Trump’s actions in recent weeks closely mimic those of totalitarian leaders in other parts of the world. One expert on modern Russian political history says Trump’s latest public relations campaign is raising serious concerns.
Earlier this month, the Trump team announced they would be publishing regular newscasts. The video clips are called “Real News,” but they’re actually packed full of lies and otherwise misleading information.
Michael McFaul, one of the top experts on U.S.-Russian relations, is sounding the alarm about Trump’s latest propaganda campaign. McFaul served as U.S. ambassador to Russia during the Obama administration, and he was a special adviser on the National Security Council before that.
After spending years living and working in former Soviet Union territory, McFaul said Trump’s new TV project “feels eerily like” the state-run news services he’s seen abroad.
Wow. Feels eerily like so many state-owned channels I’ve watched in other countries https://t.co/dqsLEfuLj8

Another leading media scholar is saying Trump’s “Real News” campaign is a massive attack on the First Amendment – Trump is copying tactics used by totalitarian regimes in order to stifle consent.
“It smacks of state-run news, and we’re not supposed to have state-run news in the United States of America,” said Tom Rosenstiel, a U.S. researcher and director of the American Press Institute. ” … The adoption of phrases like ‘fake news’ and ‘real news’ is alarming, especially coming from the president. This is Orwellian, and it’s happening right now, right here.”
What do you think – is the Trump campaign’s “Real News” project an example of authoritarian government?
One thing is for sure – Americans who are paying attention are more suspicious than ever about Trump. This behavior is extremely unusual and very concerning.
