The Trump administration is entering into utter turmoil, and inside sources say top cabinet members are scrambling to get away from President Donald Trump.
In the latest development, journalists in Washington D.C. recently learned that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was on the verge of resigning earlier this year due to his difficulties with Trump. Tillerson reportedly lashed out at Trump during a meeting, calling him a “moron” and threatening to quit the job altogether.
People familiar with the situation say Vice President Mike Pence has been forced to step in and try to ease the tensions that have been rising between Trump and his top staff. Pence reportedly begged Tillerson to stay, and was ultimately convincing.
Still, insiders say it’s only a matter of time before Tillerson and other high-ranking members of the Trump team have enough and decide to leave the administration.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was on the verge of resigning this past summer amid mounting policy disputes and clashes with the White House, according to senior administration officials who were aware of the situation at the time.
The tensions came to a head around the time President Donald Trump delivered a politicized speech in late July to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization Tillerson once led, the officials said.
Just days earlier, Tillerson had openly disparaged the president, referring to him as a “moron,” after a July 20 meeting at the Pentagon with members of Trump’s national security team and Cabinet officials, according to three officials familiar with the incident.
Another controversy sprang up more recently, after Trump publicly criticized Tillerson for his handling of the situation in North Korea. It is extremely rare – and unprofessional – for a sitting president to criticize his staff in public, but Trump has done so repeatedly since he took office less than a year ago.
After that scuffle, Tillerson – who was out of town for a family wedding – threatened to not even return to Washington D.C. at all. Pence reportedly convinced him to come back, though.
One thing is for sure – the Trump administration is falling apart before our eyes!
