President Donald Trump and his inner circle are under attack like never before.
Federal investigator Robert Mueller has reportedly started to target Vice President Mike Pence as part of the investigation into election hacking and other political misconduct by the Trump administration. Mueller is now asking for documents related to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, which insiders say could mean bad news for Pence.
Flynn was forced out of office early on in the Trump administration after it was revealed that he had inappropriate connections to foreign operatives. As investigators dig further and further into Flynn’s background, more Trump staffers could be implicated.
Investigators working for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, recently asked the White House for documents related to the former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn, and have questioned witnesses about whether he was secretly paid by the Turkish government during the final months of the presidential campaign, according to people close to the investigation.
… In interviews with potential witnesses in recent weeks, prosecutors and F.B.I. agents have spent hours poring over the details of Mr. Flynn’s business dealings with a Turkish-American businessman who worked last year with Mr. Flynn and his consulting business, the Flynn Intel Group.
It is easy to see how Pence could soon get wrapped up into this investigation – it seems likely that he knew about Flynn’s foreign connections earlier than he’s previously admitted. That could end up being a death sentence for Pence’s political career.
Mueller’s investigation into these kickbacks brings up the question, did Pence know about those too? If Pence knew about these crimes then he committed obstruction of justice.
Co-founder of the Democratic Coalition, Scott Dworkin was on MSNBC’s Morning Joy recently and shared his thoughts on Mike Pence taking the fall for hiring ex-General Michael Flynn as National Security Advisor in the first place.
He said, “Pence is a hands on guy, he was leading the transition team himself.” Dworkin also said that he sees the chips falling into place for Pence to take the fall on this one, which makes perfect sense given the fact that the Trump administration is clearly always looking for someone to place to blame on, e.g. blaming Obama for not properly vetting Flynn.
Almost everyone agrees by now that Trump will be pushed out of office sooner or later, but now it’s looking like Pence won’t be too far behind him. Good riddance!
