President Donald Trump’s terrible policy agenda just got a stunning rejection from the American people.
A brand new poll shows that a record number of Americans – 64 percent – are now supporting marijuana legalization. That is a major setback for Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who have been scrambling to crackdown on non-violent drug use.
Support for marijuana legalization has grown significantly in recent decades – from just 12 percent back in 1969, to almost three-fourths
The latest developments come from a national poll conducted recently by Gallup:
Americans continue to warm to legalizing marijuana, with 64% now saying its use should be made legal. This is the highest level of public support Gallup has found for the proposal in nearly a half-century of measurement.
… Gallup first asked national adults about their views on the topic in 1969, when 12% supported legalization. Support had more than doubled by the end of the next decade but changed little throughout the 1980s and 1990s. By 2001, however, about a third of Americans favored legalizing marijuana, and support has steadily increased since. A majority of Americans have consistently supported legalizing marijuana since 2013.
The trajectory of Americans’ views on marijuana is similar to that of their views on same-sex marriage over the past couple of decades. On both issues, about a quarter supported legalization in the late 1990s, and today 64% favor each. Over the past several years, Gallup has found that Americans have become more liberal on a variety of social issues.
Most states across the country already have a medical marijuana program, and a growing number of states have approved full marijuana legalization use by adults.
Despite all of that, Sessions and Trump are trying to turn back the clock. Under the GOP’s plan, the government would start throwing more and more peaceful people in jail for using a relatively harmless drug like marijuana.
Too bad for Trump and his cronies, Americans have caught onto their stupid games and we are fed up!
