Doctors and other mental health professionals from around the country are sounding off about President Donald Trump. They’re warning that Trump’s mental instability could be dangerous for Americans. The Hill reports:
In a sign of the polarized times, thousands of mental health professionals have signed a Change.org petition declaring Trump “is mentally ill and must be removed.”
Thirty-five psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers also signed a letter to The New York Times saying that “the grave emotional instability indicated by Mr. Trump’s speech and actions makes him incapable of serving safely as president.”
A growing group of Democrats want to remove President Donald Trump amid emerging allegations that Trump’s mental health makes him unfit to serve as president.
Rep. Earl Blumenauer took the U.S. House floor this week and called for an examination of the process for removing the president from office. And Rep. Ted Lieu says he plans to introduce legislation that would require a psychiatrist in the White House to assess the president’s mental health.
“Anyone who can launch 4,000 nuclear weapons in minutes absolutely should be questioned on any matter related to their physical and mental health,” Lieu said.
On the other hand, a few mental health experts have said it’s difficult to diagnose public figures without direct contact. Dr. Allen Frances is a prominent expert who helped write the diagnosis guidelines for narcissistic personality disorder; he recently wrote in the New York Times that Trump doesn’t qualify as mentally ill because he doesn’t suffer from his outbursts – others suffer instead.
